"Seaside Village" Graphite 1989 - 24" x 18" Barbara Hughes collection Judicious planning and placement of value and detail, together with an accurate rendition of the water, made this drawing an intriguing challenge and a delight to draw. |

"Arrogance" Graphite 2007 - 21" x 27" A fortress at the top of the world, where you can hear the angel's voices on the wind and where the kings of the world stand in defiance to the gods. |

"Castles and Moonlight" Graphite 1994 - 14" x 17" Dr. & Mrs. Thomas Mitchell collection I love conceiving imaginary landscapes that yield opportunities for developing a strong design that pulls the viewer into its environment. This drawing and "Watchtower and Moonlight" were drawn as a set. Two other examples of imaginary landscapes, "Arrogance" and "Outland Garrison", can be found elsewhere in my portfolios. |

"At the End of the Day" Colored Pencil 2006 - 14 x 19 personal collection I wanted to render a believable image of the bright sparkling water in the early evening. With the sun to the upper right, the brightness of the watery field diminishes toward the lower left. The trees and the grassy foreground frame the piece and the alert mother and her babies defines the end of the day. |

"Suspended" Colored Pencil 2006 - 14 x 19 personal collection The vertical reflections of the background trees in the calm water contrasted with the horizontally moving waves of the wind disturbed water was quite intriguing for me. The vertical shafts of green reflect the grassy slopes beyond and the horizontal waves reflect the pale blue sky and the pink clouds of evening. And the ducks all seem to be suspended in bliss. |

"Castle & Raging River" Pen & India Ink 1994 14x17 private collection whereabouts unknown This piece was actually a study I devised for suggesting several different textures: dramatically flowing water, rocky banks, an ocean background, and clouds. I was pleased with everything except the clouds. |
"Cliffs" Pen & India Ink 1994 14 x 17 private collection whereabouts unknown The major part of this piece - the cliffs on the left and the solitary tree above - were taking from some rocky bluffs near my home in east central Missouri. The cliffs on the right and the sea behind were added as a counterpoint. Unfortunately, I do not have a larger image and I do not remember who bought this piece or "Castles and Raging River" |
